EV pure play’s ambitions have dependencies that may change under a Republican regime
The Croatian EV technology firm will supply drivetrains to the Middle Eastern challenger
Ceer, the Saudi Arabian EV joint venture (JV) between the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund the PIF and Taiwanese electronics heavyweight Foxconn, has signed a deal with Croatia’s Rimac for the supply electric drive systems (EDS) for its planned EVs. upcoming flagship range of EVs.
Rimac is aiming to expand from building niche performance BEVs like its own Nevera e-sportscar and the Pininfarina Battista, Aston Martin Valkyrie and Koenigsegg Regera to supply of its technology to more mass-market vehicles.
As well as the Ceer deal, it inked an agreement earlier this year with Germany’s BMW to supply it with high-voltage battery systems and says it has aslo “has signed multiple agreements for mid-to-large volume European OEM projects”, without giving further details.
"The collaboration with Ceer further solidifies Rimac Technology's global electrification ambitions," says founder Mate Rimac. “This year alone we have announced several key partnerships, including with the BMW Group and Ceer, which will result in the production of tens of thousands of electric drive systems and battery systems for leading OEMs worldwide.
“With more exciting projects in the pipeline, we have strategically invested in our production facilities in Croatia, including the Rimac Campus and supporting infrastructure, which will soon be operating at full capacity,” he continues. The firm announced the completion and production start-up of the first stage of the new manufacturing campus last month.

Ceer has ambitious targets to directly contribute $8bn to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2034, with its BEVs designed and manufactured in-country. The company plans to license component technology from BMW, while Foxconn will develop the electrical architecture of the vehicles, targets USPs in infotainment, connectivity, and autonomous driving.
