Austin-based Tesla and Volvo-owned Polestar owners report more problems than any other OEMs, says JD Power.

Quality concerns hit EVs hardest
Door handles were one of the most problematic technologies for consumers in 2023.

US consumer intelligence company JD Power’s Initial Quality Study (IQS) found that new EVs record more problems than their new ICE counterparts, despite both sides of the US automotive industry facing a rise in reported problems.

While the company with the fewest problems per 100 vehicles was US OEM Dodge with a score of 140 problems, EV-focused Tesla and Polestar owners reported 257 and 313 problems respectively.  Well over the study’s average of 192, Polestar finishing as the most problematic manufacturer with Tesla rounding-out the bottom two.
