Start-up Italvolt, the company seeking to build one of Europe’s first wave of battery gigafactories in Italy, is exploring a new site for the project in Sicily after cooling on its proposed location near Turin.
Challenges related to building a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery factory on the former Olivetti di Scarmagno site in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy have led Italvolt founder Lars Carlstrom to look elsewhere for the multibillion-euro project.
