Ford sets new US BEV sales record
November is best-ever month for the US legacy OEM’s all-electric sales
Detroit Three automaker Ford sold more BEVs in the US market in November than in any previous month. But sales of the firm’s three all-electric models still made up only 6.5pc of total volumes in Ford’s home country last month.
It sold just over 10,800 units, only the second time Ford’s US BEV sales have been in five figures in a single month (see main image). Its Mustang Mach-E saw a best-ever sales month with almost 6,00 of the e-SUVs sold, while its F-150 Lightning e-truck saw its best performance since strong sales in Q4’24 and the E-Transit e-van enjoyed its third highest monthly sales (see Fig.1).
Cumulative US BEV sales for the year as a whole are now up at almost 85,000 units, meaning 2024 is guaranteed to be Ford’s best year of US all-electric sales even with a month to go (see Fig.2). But the firm will need to set another record this month if it wants to top 100,000 units for the year as a whole.
Fully electric sales still make up a meagre proportion of Ford’s overall US business — with even hybrids outselling BEVS with an 8.6pc share of the firm’s November sales mix. But ICE vehicles remain the lion’s share of Fords sold, with almost 85pc of new Fords purchased in November fuelled solely by gas (see Fig.3).
