GM sells out of Michigan battery plant
The firm continues to look to diversify its approach
German OEM VW Group has launched the ID.7 – one of the first electric estate cars in the upper mid-sized class in Europe.
The ID.7 Tourer will be available with two battery sizes. The larger 86 kWh battery model will have a range of 685 km and can be recharged from 10pc to 80pc in less than 30 minutes. VW did not advertise the range of the smaller 77kWh battery pack but says its charging time is similar.
The vehicle is aimed at those taking frequent long distance trips.
"The new ID.7 Tourer is a perfect estate model, especially for families and long-distance drivers," says Imelda Labbé, the VW Board member responsible for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales.
The vehicle uses VW's new APP550 electric drive system which will be used for all the ID models going forward.
BMW has launched a car in the same segment, the BMW i5 Touring, which is now on sale in Europe, and MG also offers an electric estate, the MG5.
Official pricing for the ID.7 has not been released yet.
