Stellantis’ German BEV horror show
The Amsterdam-headquartered conglomerate joins Renault and Tesla in Teutonic turmoil
A quarter of all demand for the new Stellantis C-segment e-SUV is BEV, and this may grow
The Peugeot brand has reported 50,000 orders for is new E-3008 e-SUV, with 25pc or 12,500 of these being for the all-electric version, just months after the vehicle was launched. Parent Stellantis says that the 25pc mark is above the average BEV share of new sales in the European C segment.
And just a week ago, during Stellantis' Q2 conference call, the firm's CEO Carlos Tavares hailed E-3008 orders of "no less than 36,000", suggesting that current uptake rates could be as high as 2,000/day.
The car debuted in March in its home French market, before extending to “major European markets” in May. It is manufactured at the Sochaux plant in eastern France, close to the Swiss border.
Most orders are for the high-end GT version of the E-3008, which Stellantis says “strengthens the brand's upper mainstream strategy”. And it also trails the upcoming launch of what it calls the “highly anticipated” Electric 230 Long Range version, offering a record range of 680 km.
With the Electric 320 Dual Motor AWD version also set to join the family, Stellantis expects the two new variants to increase the EV mix of the model in the coming months.
The E-3008 is currently available in three powertrains: electric 210 hp, hybrid 136 e-DCS6, and plug-in hybrid 195 e-DCS7. While the BEV is, according to Tavares, "highly profitable", he notes that the HEV version is "even more profitable".
The vehicle will be joined later this year by the E-5007 seven-seat SUV and, Tavares says, the products "represent the first applications of the STLA Medium platform, and it proves to be a highly competitive platform".
Peugeot also offers its Allure Care programme for its entire range of BEV passenger vehicles, providing comprehensive vehicle warranty coverage for up to 8 years or 160,000 km.
